Representing Co-op City in the Bronx New York, Jay Lam is determined to put the Bronx back on the map. Making quality music is in his DNA, Jay’s father was a background singer for Luther Vandross, so he grew up on soul music. Along with his background in soul music, Jay Lam was encouraged by a good friend to pursue his dreams in music. The young emcee started rhyming in high school and has been recording ever since. Influenced by Fabolous, Jadakiss and Drake, Jay takes his time in the studio. The heart of the music brings him to an inspirational plateau, “I think of a melody in my head that the beat is telling me to say.” With all due respect to the process, Jay likes to stick to conceptual songs and not be all over the place with his music.
As his skills got better Jay’s crew from around the way motivated him to expand his audience beyond Co-op City. He started going to different venues, requesting Djs to play his songs and performed at several showcases around the country. Jay Lam is the winner of the most recent Press Play Artist Series
